Cutting & machining

Optimize turning, drilling, threading, and other machining processes with stable and clean cutting fluid

UV treatment prevents bacterial growth and unpleasant odors, ensuring consistent quality and reducing the need for frequent fluid changes.

Cutting operations demand high precision, quality, and cost efficiency. A critical factor is the concentration of the cutting fluid – the right level ensures stable processes, longer tool life, and minimizes the risk of scrap.

How different applications affect your cutting fluid

Here we explain how various operations such as turning, drilling, reaming, threading, and honing are influenced by cutting fluid quality and why continuous monitoring is key to both productivity and sustainability.

In turning operations, a stable concentration and temperature are critical. The concentration must remain within the recommendations of the metalworking fluid supplier.
If the concentration is too high, greasy residues form on both the machine and the workpieces. Excessive concentration also leads to unnecessary fluid consumption and has a negative impact on both environmental performance and operating costs.
If the concentration is too low, bacteria proliferate, degrading the fluid and posing health risks to personnel. Low concentration also increases the risk of pH drop, which can promote corrosion of both machine components and workpieces.

In drilling operations, it is particularly important that the MWF concentration is correctly adjusted. A concentration that is too low provides insufficient lubrication, causing excessive tool wear and leading to frequent tool changes and higher tooling costs. In the worst case, tool breakage may result in workpiece damage and scrap.
An unnecessarily high concentration reduces cooling efficiency and causes similar problems. Tests have shown that concentration differences can reduce concentrate consumption by up to 75%, representing significant savings potential.
For drilling, maintaining and monitoring a correct and uniform concentration is therefore essential—and virtually impossible to achieve through manual control alone.

Reaming requires tight tolerances and high surface quality. It is therefore crucial to maintain the optimal concentration according to the recommendations of the MWF supplier.
An emulsion is often recommended, as it improves tool life. Adequate lubrication is generally required, and the concentration should remain stable at a slightly higher level.
Insufficient control and low concentration can damage both tools and workpieces, resulting in quality issues and increased scrap rates.

To minimize friction and heat generation during tapping, the MWF concentration must remain constant and is generally maintained at a somewhat higher level.
To ensure long tool life, the metalworking fluid should be regularly monitored and properly maintained.

High precision without costly defects requires correct and stable MWF quality. Adequate lubrication is essential; however, excessive concentration causes sticky workpieces and negatively affects downstream washing processes.
As a result, heavily loaded washing systems must be replaced more frequently, leading to production downtime and increased disposal and chemical costs.
Since honing is often the final machining step before delivery to the customer, process stability is critical to avoid expensive scrap.
